Cryosurgery Probes and Accessories
| VOS offers a large selection of probes for cryosurgery in large and small animals.
Liquid nitrogen is the recommended cryogen. Dr. Keith Farrell originally developed them at Washington State University
in the late 1970s and early 1980s. They were originally marketed by Kryokinetics, a company he founded. Dr. Bryan
worked with Dr. Farrell and used these probes while serving as the ophthalmologist for WSU. Farrell and Bryan jointly
developed the glaucoma probe (# 35). We will gladly answer questions about both the instruments we have available and
cryosurgery in general. Remember that cryotherapy, with or without surgical excision,
remains the treatment of choice for squamous cell carcinoma in all species. Cryotherapy is also used in the treatment
of glaucoma in dogs and horses and in limbal based conditions like melanomas and immune mediated proliferations. Cryo. Not every practice can afford a
laser. Not all clients can bring patients to the clinic, and not
every practitioner is inclined to pack around bulky, expensive cryo
equipment in a mobile unit. In an era of keeping up with the latest
new toys, V.O.S. is not afraid to assert that there’s still a place
for the good old fashioned way! We admit that some practitioners
look askance at solid copper cryoprobes, but consider this: They are
affordable, effective, portable, and durable, whether as a
substitute or as a supplement to other methods. Take another look! |
